The Canadian immigration authorities accept the PTE (Pearson Test of English) for immigration applications.

The Canadian immigration authorities have announced that they accept the Pearson Test of English (PTE) for immigration applications. Alongside IELTS and CELPIP, PTE will be one of the three English language tests accepted for economic class applicants seeking immigration to Canada.

Recently, the immigration authorities have announced their recognition of the Pearson Test of English (PTE) for immigration to Canada.

By late 2023, this test will join the IELTS General and CELPIP tests as one of the three approved language tests designated by the immigration authorities. This means that economic class applicants will be able to demonstrate their English language proficiency to the immigration authorities.

PTE Essential is a modern English language test created by Pearson to meet the language assessment requirements of the immigration authorities. The immigration authorities have different language criteria for applicants of Canadian study visas, typically requiring international students to take an academic version of an English language test.

Recognition of PTE Essential means that now there are five language tests available to economic class applicants. In addition to the previous three language tests, two French language tests, TEF Canada and TCF Canada, are designated by the Canadian immigration authorities.

The Canadian immigration authorities require economic class applicants to demonstrate their language proficiency for economic establishment in Canada by taking a language test. According to Statistics Canada, a high level of proficiency in English or French is strongly correlated with economic success in Canada.

The immigration authorities have not specified when applicants will be able to submit PTE Essential along with their immigration application. However, the immigration website states that this option is expected to become available by the end of the current calendar year.
